Project Thirty Three August 2, 2010

Project Thirty-Three has a great collection of vintage record sleeves up. This kind of minimalist approach to record jacket design is about as close as it gets to perfection for me. I’ve always loved the Blue Note style stuff but this is just a little more what I’m looking for. The simplicity is what really gets me, so much with so little. Wish I had prints of all these, but as a consolation, they make great iPhone backgrounds after a little editing.

A little something to get you through the day… July 15, 2010
Way before the music industry got their hands on hip-hop and turned it into a garbage gangsta formula, kids from the Bronx were rhyming about real life and positivity. Check out this excerpt from the 1983 documentary Wild Style! The 2nd verse gets me every time.
River and Sky Festival – this weekend! July 15, 2010
Tent? Check. Food? Check. Guitar? Check.
Hanging out with musicians while promoting regional sustainability and agriculture? You bet.

The second annual River and Sky Festival takes place this weekend at The River Valley Park, which is about an hour from either Sudbury or North Bay.

Daniel, Fred & Julie May 7, 2010
We’ve been jamming this one around the office a lot lately and I got the chance to check them out live in Toronto a couple of weeks ago.
Label bio:
Daniel, Fred, And Julie is a very special collaboration between three musicians. Daniel Romano sings and plays guitar in Attack in Black. Calm Down It’s Monday’s Fred Squire sang and played guitar in legendary indie-rock group Shotgun and Jaybird, and is a jack-of-all-trades and master of some in the Julie Doiron band. And Julie Doiron is the legendary songwriter, singer, guitar shredder, collaborator with Mount Eerie, Gord Downie, Herman Dune, Wooden Stars, and member of Eric’s Trip, who needs no introduction. But this is a record unlike any previously heard from these fine and versatile musicians.
